- Samples must have received provisional OR full certification by the Wine and Spirit Board. Copies of the WSR2A or WSR4A forms issued by the WSB must be sealed in a separate envelope and delivered with the wine samples to Vrede Wines. Alternatively they may be mailed to our offices by registered mail on P O Box 12444, Die Boord 7613 Stellenbosch to reach us no later than Monday, 2 August 2010.
- Barrel or tank samples may be accepted, if accompanied by a lab analysis. Other conditions may apply. Six bottles of 750ml or 1000ml capacity for each entry must be submitted. Please submit each entry separately boxed and clearly marked on the outside of the box with the class number under which the wine is entered. However, by special request four bottles will be accepted for Garagiste entries.
- Entry samples should be labelled with their final labels or alternatively clearly identifiable with sample labels containing the name of the cellar/producer, class of entry and the vintage and cultivar/s of the wine.
- Entries which cannot be easily identified will automatically be disqualified.
- A copy of the entry form, clearly highlighted for each wine, must accompany the wine samples. Such copies should be attached to the outside of the box, clearly showing the class of entry.
- No wine which has previously been awarded a Grand D'or medal and/or a trophy by the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, may be re-entered, except in the Golden Oldies class. Wines which have been awarded Michelangelo gold and silver medals in the past may be re-entered.
- Entry forms can be obtained electronically via our website (www.michelangeloawards.com) or are available via e-mail (lorman@yebo.co.za) or from our offices on 021-865 2440. Only entry forms which are received by e-mail via our website or delivered with samples to Vrede Wines will be accepted.
- ENTRY FORMS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED BY FAX.

- The entry fee is R650,00 (including VAT) for each wine entered.

Judging procedures:
- Wines will be judged in accordance with the variety or type (the class) to which it belongs.
- Wines will be judged in accordance with the variety or type (the class) to which it belongs.
- The chairman of each judging panel - or failing him/her the Chairman of Judges will attempt to reach consensus between the panel members as to the score awarded each wine.
- The OIV 100 point system will be used and medals awarded on the basis of: Grand D'Or = 96 or more points Gold = 92 - 96 points Silver = 86 - 92 points
- Only the top scoring 33% of total entries in the Michelangelo International Wine Awards will be eligible for medals, and are calculated according to the judges’ scores to
- Eight trophies will be awarded, which are the following:
- The CCL Label Grand Prix Trophy for the highest scoring entry;
- The RX South Africa Runner-up Trophy for the wine awarded just below the score of the Grand Prix winner;
- The Sue van Wyk Trophy for the highest scoring Pinotage entered;
- The Wine Tourism News Trophy for the highest scoring organic wine entered;
- The Golden Oldie Trophy for the highest scoring wine entered in the Golden Oldie category;
- The Michelangelo Trophy for the most innovative wine entered in the competition;
- The Wine of the Month Club Trophy for the best Garagiste wine entered by small winemakers;
- The Grotto Trophy for the top producer
An ninth trophy is awarded for the best Brandy entered in the competition. This is South Africa's only award for locally produced brandy and
If cork defects or any organo-leptic defects are found in more than two bottles per entry, the said entry will be disqualified.
- Bottle medal stickers:
After the award ceremony on Friday 10 September, the official Michelangelo International Wine Awards self-adhesive stickers can be ordered and collected from The Michelangelo Wine Company office at Vrede Wine, R304, Koelenhof, Stellenbosch from Monday, 13 September. Please also indicate on the form, should you wish them to be mailed to you.
- a. Requirements (in strict accordance to the series code numbers of the wine entries) regarding bottle stickers must be indicated on the bottle sticker order form included with the entry form.
- b. Once collected, no stickers will be returned for a refund and the named estate/producers will be held responsible for payment of such stickers.

Awards function:
The awards luncheon will take place on Friday, 10 September 2010 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. More details available soon on the website under Events.
- Please note that no cash will be accepted for payment of tickets on the evening of the function.
- Bookings will only be confirmed once payment via the internet or directly into our account has been received.
As soon as proof of payment has been received, bookings will be confirmed via e-mail or fax - please ensure that your booking has been confirmed as such before your party's arrival at the awards function on 10 September.
