  1. Entries open on Monday, 1 July 2013 and close on Wednesday, 31 July 2013. Completed entry forms (see rule 11), certification documents (see rule 5), entry fees (see rule 12) and samples should reach the organisers by end of business on Wednesday, 31 July 2013.

    • R750 per entry, if received and paid for prior to 19 July
    • R800 per entry, if received and paid for between 20 July and 31 July

  2. Samples may be delivered during office hours (Monday to Friday) from 09:00 to 16:00, unless alternative arrangements have been made. For delivery enquiries please contact Eddie Coetzee on 083 210 6835.

    Late delivery of samples: Should samples not have been received by close of business on Wednesday, 31 July 2013, such entries will be withdrawn unless prior alternative arrangements have been made with the organiser. In case of late delivery, please notify Eddie Coetzee on 083 210 6835 or Lorraine Immelman on 082 556 8679 or via e-mail on lorraine@michelangeloawards.com

  3. Samples must have received either full or provisional certification by the Wine and Spirit Board. Copies of the WSR2A or WSR4A forms issued by the WSB must be sealed in a separate envelope and delivered with the wine samples to Romond Vineyards.
  4. Barrel or tank samples may be accepted, if accompanied by a lab analysis. Other conditions may apply. Six bottles of 750ml or five bottles of 1000ml capacity for each entry must be submitted. Please submit each entry separately boxed and clearly marked on the outside of the box with the class number under which the wine is entered.
  5. No minimum volume of wine entered is required to be kept in supply by the producer. We accept samples from any volume of wine and do not require minimum stock quantities
  6. For Garagiste entries four (4) 750ml bottles will be accepted
  7. For Brandy entries two (2) 750ml bottles will be accepted
  8. For the Golden Oldies Trophy two (2) 750ml bottles will be accepted
  9. Entry samples should be labelled with their final labels or alternatively clearly identifiable with sample labels containing the name of the cellar/producer, class of entry and the vintage and cultivar/s of the wine.
  10. Entries which cannot be easily identified by labels – whether permanent labels or temporary labels - will automatically be disqualified.
  11. A copy of the entry form, clearly highlighted for each wine, must accompany the wine samples. Such copies should be attached to the outside of the box, clearly showing the class of entry.
  12. No wine which has previously been awarded a Gran D'or medal and/or a trophy by the Michelangelo International Wine Awards may be re-entered. Wines which have been awarded Michelangelo gold and silver medals in the past may be re-entered.
  13. Entry forms can be obtained electronically from our website at (www.michelangeloawards.com) or are available via e-mail from lorraine@michelangeloawards.com. Only completed entry forms which are received by e-mail via our website or delivered with samples to Romond Vineyards will be accepted.

    ENTRY FORMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY FAX.

  14. ENTRY FEES AND PAYMENTS:

    Cash deposits: Please add a 1% handling fee (charged by all South African banks) to the amount, should you be depositing you entry fees in cash.

    Payment for entries should be received no later than Wednesday, 31 July 2013.

    The entry fee is non-refundable.

  15. 15. JUDGING PROCEDURES:

    a. Wines will be judged in accordance with the variety or type (the class) to which it belongs.

    b. The OIV 100 point system is used.

    c. Entries which have received, during the tasting and for each class, a number of determined points in accordance with the methodology for distribution of medals, are awarded the following:

    • Platinum
    • Gran d’Or (double gold)
    • Gold
    • Silver

    No bronze medals or merit awards are given.

    The top scoring one-third of total entries in the Michelangelo International Wine Awards will be eligible for medals, and are calculated according to the judges’ final scores. However, where a number of wines qualify for a medal in terms of the medal cut-off point, all wines with that score will be awarded the appropriate medal.

    d. Fifteen trophies will be awarded, which are the following:

    2. AfriRack Best Dessert Wine Trophy
    3. Best Coffee/Mocha-Style Pinotage Trophy sponsored by Toneleria Naçional SA
    4. Best Fairtrade Red Wine Trophy sponsored by Pick n Pay
    5. Best Fairtrade White Wine Trophy sponsored by Pick n Pay
    6. Best International Entry
    7. Best MCC Trophy sponsored by African Cellar Suppliers
    8. Best Organic Trophy
    9. Michelangelo Brandy Trophy
    10. Garagiste Trophy
    11. Golden Oldie Trophy
    12. Grotto Trophy Top Producer
    13. RX South Africa Trophy Most Innovative Wine
    14. Sue van Wyk Pinotage Trophy
    15. Tonnellerie de Mercurey Trophy sponsored by RX South Africa for the Best French-Style Red Blend (Bordeaux Blend)

    e. All results, as well as the judging process of The Michelangelo CCL Label International Wine Awards are audited. Our appointed auditors are J Vermooten Chartered Accountants (SA).

  16. BOTTLE MEDAL STICKERS:

    a. The official Michelangelo International Wine Awards self-adhesive stickers can be ordered and collected from The Michelangelo office at Ferndale str 2, Bracken Heights, Brackenfell. from Monday, 9 September. Alternatively, please indicate on the order form (available from www.michelangeloawards.com from Friday, 6 September 2013 at 15:00), should you wish the stickers to be mailed to you.

    b. Once collected or mailed, no stickers will be returned for a refund and the named estate/producers will be held responsible for payment of such stickers.

  17. AWARDS FUNCTION:

    a. The awards luncheon will take place at 12:00 on Friday, 6 September 2013 at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West. More details available soon on the website under Events.

    b. Please note that no cash will be accepted for payment of tickets on the day of the function.

    c. Bookings will only be confirmed once payment via the internet or directly into our account has been received.

    d. As soon as proof of payment has been received, bookings will be confirmed via e-mail - please ensure that your booking has been confirmed as such before your party's arrival at the awards function on 6 September.
