  1. Completed entry forms (see rule 11), certification documents (see rule 5) and entry fees (see rule 12 ) must be submitted to reach the organisers on or before Monday, 4 August 2008. Late submissions will be considered by the organiser only if prior arrangements have been made in writing with the competitions director.

  2. Samples may be delivered during office hours (Monday to Friday) until 17:00 on Monday, 4 August 2008. Delivery address: Vrede, R304, Stellenbosch (opposite Klawervlei). Contact: Henrico van Lill on 082 386 4823 or 021-865 2440.

    Should samples not have been received by close of business on 4 August 2008, such entries will be withdrawn unless prior alternative arrangements have been made with the organiser.   3. Only bottled wines may be entered – no tank or barrel samples – which have received provisional OR full certification by the Wine and Spirit Board.

  4. Copies of the WSR2A or WSR4A forms issued by the Wine and Spirit Board must accompany the entry form. In cases where wine is being entered on-line via the internet, such forms should preferably be included in the box of wine samples. Alternatively they may be hand-delivered or mailed to our offices by registered mail on P O Box 12444, Die Boord 7613 Stellenbosch.

  5. Six bottles of 750ml or 1000ml capacity for each entry must be submitted. Please submit each entry separately boxed and clearly marked on the outside of the box with the class number under which the wine is entered. However, by special request four bottles will be accepted for Garagiste entries.

  6. A minimum number of 12 bottles of each wine must be made available at no charge to the organisers, should the wine be awarded a medal or trophy. These wines will be used to promote the Michelangelo International Wine Awards and it's winners at the new Michelangelo tasting room at Vrede, Koelenhof.

    An additional 12 cases (12 x 750ml) should be made available for purchase by the organisers for marketing purposes at a price no higher than the agent's price. The competition organisers will reserve their right to take up all or part of these reserved wines, which should be kept in stock by the producer until the 30th of November 2008.

  7. Entry samples should be labelled with their final labels or alternatively clearly identifiable with sample labels.

  8. A copy of the entry form, clearly highlighted for each wine, must accompany the wine samples. Such copies should be attached to the outside of the box.

  9. No wine which has previously been awarded a Grand D’or medal and/or a trophy by the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, may be re-entered, except in the case of the Golden Oldies class. Wines which have been awarded Michelangelo gold and silver medals in the past may be re-entered.

  10. Entry forms can be obtained electronically via our website (www.michelangeloawards.com) or are available on request from our offices on 021-865 2440 or (039) 314-9913. These must be submitted no later than 4 August 2008 in order to qualify for entry into the Michelangelo International Wine Awards 2008. The organisers cannot be held responsible for misplaced forms or for forms not received by this date.

  11. Entry fees:

    a) The entry fee is R550,00 (including VAT) for each wine entered.

    b) Payment should preferably be made electronically or directly into the following account:

    Alternatively cheques may be hand-delivered to our offices in a separate envelope, clearly marked for the attention of Lorraine Immelman-Steyn. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE CHEQUES OR CASH IN THE WINE SAMPLE CASES. THE ORGANISERS TAKE NO RESONSIBILITY FOR CASH INCLUDED WITH SAMPLES.

    c) Proof of payment should be faxed to (039) 314-9914, marked for attention Ellené. All enquiries regarding payment or invoices should be directed to our bookkeeper, Ellené Barbadimos on (039) 314 9913.

    d) Payment for entries should be received no later than 4 August 2008.

    e) The entry fee is non-refundable and shall only be returned at the organiser’s sole discretion. Entries not paid for by 4 August 2008 will automatically be disqualified.

  12. Judging procedures:

    a) Wines will be judged in accordance with the variety or type (the class) to which it belongs.

    b) The chairman of each judging panel – or failing him/her the Chairman of Judges will attempt to reach consensus between the panel members as to the score awarded each wine.

    c) The 100 point system will be used and medals awarded on the basis of:

    - Grand D’Or = 96 or more points
    - Gold = 92 - 96 points
    - Silver = 86 - 92 points
    d) Only the top scoring 30% of total entries in the Michelangelo International Wine Awards will be eligible for medals.

    e) Four trophies will be awarded, namely the Ferroprint Grand Prix Trophy for the highest scoring entry, the Sue van Wyk Pinotage Trophy for the best Pinotage entered, the Green Trophy for the best organic wine entered and the Good Taste Garagiste Trophy for the best Garagiste wine entered. Trophy winners will in future also be awarded a double gold medal with their trophy.

    f) If cork defects or any organo-leptic defects are found in more than two bottles per entry, the said entry will be disqualified.

  13. Bottle medal stickers:

    a) After the award ceremony on 13 September, the official Michelangelo International Wine Awards Grand D'Or, gold and silver foiled and coated self-adhesive stickers will be available for purchase and collection from The Michelangelo Wine Company office at Koelenhof, Stellenbosch. Stickers may also be ordered via the website: www.michelangeloawards.com under the Labels button on the home page. Order forms should be printed and faxed to the organiser's office on (021) 865 2440 as soon as possible after the results have been announced.

    b) Requirements (in strict accordance to the series code numbers of the wine entries) regarding bottle stickers must be indicated on the bottle sticker order form included with the entry form.

    c) Once collected, no stickers will be returned for a refund and the named estate/producers will be held responsible for payment of such stickers.

  14. Cost of stickers:

    Silver stickers: R100/1000 stickers (excl VAT and mailing cost where applicable)
    Gold stickers: R150/1000 stickers (excl VAT and mailing cost where applicable)
    Grand D'Or: R250/1000 stickers (excl VAT and mailing cost where applicable)
    Trophy stickers: The first 1000 stickers are free for the Grand Prix, Grand Prix Runner-up, Pinotage and Brandy Trophies, thereafter R350/1000 stickers (excl VAT and mailing cost where applicable).
    Winners of the Golden Oldie and Garagiste Trophies get their first 100 stickers free, thereafter R350/1000 stickers (excl VAT and mailing cost where applicable).

  15. Awards dinner:

    a) The awards banquet will take place on Saturday, 13 September 2008 at the Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West. More details available soon on the website under Events.

    b) Please note that no cash will be accepted at the door on the evening of the function.

    c) Bookings will only be confirmed once payment via the internet or directly into our account has been received.

    As soon as proof of payment has been received, bookings will be confirmed via e-mail or fax – please ensure that your booking has been confirmed as such before your party's arrival at the Lord Charles on 13 September.
