Subhash Arora - India:

Subhash Arora is a noted wine writer, author, journalist, international judge, speaker, consultant, educator and a wine club promoter. He is the editor and major content provider of delWine, India’s first wine, food and hospitality online eNewsletter that has published 381 issues till May, 2010 and goes out to 17,000 global subscribers.

He is India’s correspondent of Meininger’s Wine Business International in Germany. Subhash is an engineer from IIT Delhi; he completed his MS and MBA at the University Minnesota in the USA and as an . An IT entrepreneur, he has been a wine evangelist for the last ten years.

As an international judge he has recently partaken in the following competitions and events:

  • 2010: Vinoble Concurso Internacional-Jerez, Selezione del Sindaco, Brindisi; Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Palermo; Vinitaly Concorso, Verona, Wine Style Asia, Singapore (President), India Wine Challenge, Mumbai. He has already been invited to Catad’Or Grand Hyatt Awards, Santiago; Mundus Vini, Neuestadt in September, 2010.
  • 2009: Mundus Vini, Neuestadt; Concours Mondial, Valencia, Wine for Asia, Singapore (President)

He participated in the Torino Wine Show twice and the Alba White Truffle Show 2009. He was the only Indian delegate at the first ever World Wine Symposium held at Villa d’Este, Lake Como in October, 2009.

He was invited to speak and meet producers at Vinitaly in Verona in 2002 and 2006, Alimentaria 2006 (Barcelona) and Madrid Fusion 2007. He was invited to deliver talks on the Indian market and consumer trends at Fenavin 2007 at Ciudad de Real, Spain, Prowein 2007, Vinitaly 2006 and Wine for Asia 2005 and 2008. He was invited to speak at the first National Wine Convention in Delhi, 2010 and several other platforms in India including to the visiting overseas delegations.

He was invited by the Government of Rioja to participate in the Grandes de la Rioja 2006 tasting of the region's wines. He went for the Tuscan Tastings in Feb. 2009, 2010, where he tasted the new arrivals of Chianti Classico, Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. Later in May 2009, 2010 to Alba to taste Barbaresco, Barolo and Roero newly released vintages. He travels regularly to various wineries in the world- tasting different varietals. He is also a member of the Wine Century Club.

Other shows where he went as a journalist were TopWine 2006, 2008 ( Huelva , Andalucía) and Vinoble - the biennial international exposition of dessert and fortified wines in 2006, 2008, 2010 in Jerez, Vinitaly 2008, Cape Wine Show 2008, Arezzo Wines 2009, Riminifair 2010. He has been invited to Italy several times to visit vineyards of Prosecco, Soave, Valpolicella, Friuli, Chianti Classico and Montalcino, Piemonte, Sicily and Marche. . He also frequents the USA, attending a biennial International Wine and Heart Health convention in as well as consulting to various Californian vineyards.

Under the leadership of Subhash, the Delhi Wine Club was founded in 2002 and has successfully organized 160 dinners to date, as well as various other wine promotional events in the leading hotels and restaurants in Delhi. This includes a recent high-prifile event at the President’s estate. He has conducted similar events in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chandigarh.

In the first-ever survey conducted by Wine Business International, Subhash was voted India’s Best Wine Journalist in 2006. He was also nominated for the Best Foreign Journalist Award by the Grandi Cru d’Italia, 2010.

Subhash was knighted by the Italian President in 2009 and given an official title of Cavaliere, for his meritorious efforts in building friendly ties between India and Italy through wine promotion and education. He also co-authored Italian Wine Guide 2007, the first book of its kind in India.
